A question arose on the forum with regards to breeding transactions....(ie. breding loan, purchasing the male, 50/50, etc.)
I have very little direct experience with this, but I thought I'd make a sticky about it anyway, since it is definitely an important topic that we will be dealing with in the future as a group.
Since I may be full of crap on this subject,
I am leaving lots of room and permission to any moderator or admin to edit this as they please
I'm pretty sure there are usually 3 options when it comes to breeding T's:
1) Breeding loan- Exactly what it sounds like. A male is loaned to the owner of the female, to be returned after he has sewn his royal oats.
2) 50/50- The male is given to the owner of the female, in return for half of the slings produced. I think that normally, the second party may keep the male (after all, you're giving the first party half of your slings). But, I'm sure that it all depends on the friendliness of the transaction; you may give the male back as an option, just to be nice.
3) Buy the male- Exactly what it sounds like. If you have multiple females, you probably don't want to do a breeding loan, because the male might get killed in the process.....who knows? It's better to own the male you're working with, so that only you are liable for a mishap. Of course, this is not the only scenario where buying the male is a possibility. You can buy a male for any occasion......even if you just want a pet for a year before he dies. You buy him, you can do what you want with him. He's yours.
There's a lot of etiquette involved in all of this, but I'm not quite familiar with it because I have minimal experience in breeding.

hey Nesh, its usually it's a 50/50 loan so #1&2 would pretty much be the same, except if your donating a male ( i will be doing that same thing w/ my MM A.avic). and w/ both of those it's customery for the male to be returned to the owner after the attempts have been made. Unless stated differently.

Okay, that's what i was thinking. Makes sense anyway. Ryan wants to use my MM B. smithi after Maren is done with him. He wants to know "what kind of split" i'm talking about. Not sure what i should ask for?? Any ideas? i know he'll buy a MM if one becomes available before he uses my male but maybe it will work out.

i think that is the key right there!! Not too long ago there was also a thread on AB discussing the different opinions regarding payment of shipping males for loans. It was pretty interesting. Again, i personally don't think there are any hard and fast rules, just make sure all parties are in agreement with everything beforehand.
i actually agreed to pay for return shipping on a loaned MM and then she would have to pay shipping on slings if produced. Well, as it wasn't even the right kind of T i'm not too excited spending 20 bucks to ship him home. Luckily she agrees and *would* be willing to pay return shipping since he wasn't a B. vagans but she's "flat broke." Now what?? Errr...
i realize we won't really have too many shipping issues amongst ourselves but certainly for the rest of the T world out there.

i would ask for the standard 50/50 unless you want to sell or make a trade for him.
when it comes to shipping out, I personnaly would rather make a trade for a male (unless its an expensive/exotic) then a split. that way your guarnteed something in return.
And also something to consider is if your male has quite afew dates and you do the standard splits your going to end up w/ a ton of slings that your going to have to find homes for....W
