Apomastus kristenae:
The spider -
Size: 1.25" LS; 0.75" BL;




The burrows -
Turrets, occasionally with vegetation drawn in around the tubes. Burrows are four to six inches deep with silk lining throughout. Spiders seem to close off burrows late spring and through the summer(speculation for now).







Prey -
Small arthropods.

Microhabitat -
Slopes with sandy clay soil sparse vegetation. Usually shaded, and extremely microhabitat specific.

Population density -
20-30 burrows in a 10 x 30 foot locality. Locality density unknown and presumed to be very sparse and in danger of development. Collection of Apomastus sp. is not advised. Observation only please.

Status -
Unprotected, protected status is being looked into for this species. Some localities are in sensitive environments, care should be taken not to disturb them.

Puente Hills, intersection of Azusa & Tomich Rd
San Antonio Canyon Mount Baldy Rd
Cajalco Canyon along Cajalco Expy
West of San Juan Hot Springs, CA off Ortega Hwy
Hot Springs Canyon Rd off Ortega Hwy
Laguna Canyon, Laguna beach CA[sensitive locality]
Little Dalton Canyon, Glendora Mountain Rd
Salt Creek above golf course and bridge[developed]
