Ive tried flytraps, one of those sticky alien things and both a store bought and (before that when I was a kid) native MN pitcher plant.
Non lasted ...probably due to whatever learning curve + whatever neglect.

just a quick google search.. I was curious to see how easy it would be to buy these plants online.
examples...

etc...

Cool stuff really.  Perfect side hobby for those with crawling meat around.   Very Happy

Hello ALl,
Hey Wayne, you should try some Sarracenia Pitcher Plants, I read they are really easy and you can actualy, divided them and replant them and they will take off.

They need destiled water to really get the big Pitchers as well as light and humidity.

regards

francisco

PS

If you find some moths over there send some my way as well as Stag beetles.

sarracenia do really well as long as you give them a long cold dormancy in the winter. they may do really well in socal....just give them the cold winter. if your area doesnt get down into the low 40's consistently during the winter, you can pull the rhizoms, cut the old pitchers off and store them in your refridgerator for 3 or 4 months and then repot them outside. this works very well.

I used to have tons of them when I was in college, in a big 40 gallon terrarium -- everything from Sarracenia to Cephalotus -- until my roommate's cat peed in it and killed them all...

These days I just have a Nepenthes a Sarracenia and a few Drosera.  The occasional Venus Fly Trap for my son (but they never seem to come back after the winter die-off).

Keep them in a covered terrarium (to keep the humidity up), under bright artificial light (so they don't cook), and use only distilled water, and they are easy as pie.

I buy stuff from BlackJungle all the time -- I highly recommend them (for whatever my recommendation is worth!)  :-)  I just bought a Dioscorea macrostachya from them a couple of weeks ago.
