They have these deisel powered temporary lights up at work (Escondido) and thus swarms of Moths have been showing up. This one was particlarly huge. Some kind of Luna Moth I suppose?

Yeah. I noticed the antennae. If it was female I might have kept her for myself ::lol::. I will look on Tuesday when I go back to work, but most of the temporary lighting will be gone by then I'm afraid. If I had noticed these giant moths sooner I would have been a bit more interested in the swarms around the lighting. I thought all that was out there were sphinx moths. I will keep my eyes out for any more though and tell you if I find any females.

....It was like a massacre around the lights during the day. As the moths landed just about any-middle-of-the-road-anywhere during the day, the roads were covered with goo and wings when the construction vehicles and workers started to roll through  Sad

sweet! someone here knows their silk moths! in a few months here in AZ, there will be around a dozen giant silk moth species in flight. the one people seem to be most after is rothschildia.

Cecropia moths are bigger. I had the pleasure of saving a male Polyphemus moth from drowning in the pool. Cecropia moths are the largest N. American moth. Don't know which comes second though.

But that's a beautiful specimen you've found.

Why damn it whyyyyyyyyyy! crybaby They deserve to live! If you're going to feed anything to a centipede or a T let it be a lizard or something.

Leave the moths alone.......or they'll come for you......I've seen it happen.

Oh no they deserve to live it's just I can't stand seeing something as pretty as a polyphemus moth being eaten alive by a T or a centipede. If you must feed one to either of the 2 let it already have lived it's life......

.....same goes for the lizards. Sorry if you got the meaning of what I said wrong.
