I just need a little extra help Please.

Anyhow, about 2 1/2 weeks ago, my Female RCF Rose hair molted.  She had been refusing food up until Saturday the 22nd. Since then I have been stuffing her face. I also took some of her webbing out of her house and put in the males container. He made a sperm web last night and I introduced them this morning. They went right at it and it went quickly. I could only see from one angle but it looked like the male was having difficulty getting insertion. But I did not have the greatest angle and everything may have gone fine. It was very quick process.

I guess my question is should I leave everything be or introduce them again while I have the opportunity?
If they are introduced again, will the male need to make another sperm web or is he still "loaded (for lack of a better word)?"   Embarassed

Thanks for the help!

Hello Denise,
Most people intruduce their males at least twice.
So, yes separate him and let him build another sperm wed to recharge batteries and then re introduce him with the lady again.

good luck

Thanks Francisco! yea! I am so excited about the process and the fact that she did not chew up my male. They are seperated- I covered her hide after the deed was done so that he could run toward me and get away from the crazy lady.  diabloanifire

I went ahead and added more of her webbing into his container hoping to get him excited again.

I will keep you updated. I am hoping for cute little red devil babies.  Twisted Evil

Watch out for the second attempt, when I mated mine the female was receptive and everything went great, but the second and third time I tried she only saw him as a meal and was very quick to attack, so just be ready and have a spatula(sp?) ready to seperate. It also seems to be a good sign if she does try to attack that everything went well the first time..

Thanks Warren. I will be watching them like a hawk. I think he is worn out right now. Poor little guy. His last molt must have been difficult because his legs are crooked but he can run! I was just concerned about the insertion because of his legs but it did not seem to stop him!

Hello,
My opinion is as the male ages the sperm becomes weaker.

so fresh male = great sperm

regards
francisco

Thanks Francisco.
What I am wondering is once the male has stored the sperm in his palpal bulbs, when is the ideal time to mate? I would think the sooner the better.  But if that is not possible, how long is the sperm that is stored in the bulbs good for? hours, days, months?

Do we really know-scientifically speaking?

In the wild they can go days or weeks till they find a female.

Thank you Warren.

Sorry for so many questions everyone. Thanks for being patient and answering them all.  Wink  Wink

I will keep you updated. I am currently keeping a written log of everything so I can see if there are any specific patterns with future breeding projects.

Hello All,
Don't want to be a party pooper but lets keep this tread as the instructions said.

Sub-forum: YdWwb - Reports
Breeding Forum. captive breeding and hatching REPORTS ONLY. (no discussion)

So can the super mods move what is not supposed to be here to a different tread, so we can continue our topic?????

thanks

francisco

Where are we suppose to put things such as breeding questions?

Would it be under Tarantulas-Capitivity or do we start a new topic under "You do what with bugs?"

Sorry to type again but let me know.

Thanks.
