Ok, so, I work at a pet store, and we decided to go crazy and check out a new reptile/invert distributer. JP pets, located in Florida. Just a bit of a warning to you, if you ever hear of them or are interested in getting animals from them (because they do small personal orders and direct shipping to homes).
We had ordered a nice selection of Ball Pythons, Corns, Tomato Frogs, and a red kneed tarantula.
Well, first of all, don't think you can get a good selection of Scorpions. they only have two colors of fat tailed scorpions... and thats it. in a pet store pov, i'm wondering why they don't cover, at least, some type of emperor... and their tarantula section was all named in the really fague common names, so i spent hours researching online trying to figure out which ones they were talking about.
The red knee DID come in. but i did a double take. I see a tiny, pink spider-thing, about the size of my pinky-nail... they sent us a pre-mature tarantula. so now it's going to take me forever to care for it before i can even HOPE to get it sold... And i'm crossing my fingers that the heat pad on it will keep it warm enough in these cold winter nights (i've had other baby tarantulas not do well in the winter, even WITH heat pads). We spent way too much for a spiderling (which i would understand the price if, say it was a bird-eater, or something special... but no, it was a freakin' red knee...)
Next on the list, 2 out of 3 of the pythons weren't bagged in the shipping box. they were just free exploring the box in the packing paper and other animal tubes... Our tomato frogs were a strange white/lavender color (where they are a vermilion red). and almost everything they sold us was almost way too young to sell. i'm just glad the baby corns ate.
and my favorite part, we found 4 ticks mounted onto one of the ball pythons... Not to mention all of the scars from previous feedings and other things on their scales.
So, what i'm saying is JP pets is lame, and the store is in full agreement to not purchase from them again (there's a reason why their prices are so cheap). And now, I have 3 ticks (the 4th was already dead on the snake, and is nothing but the head) that i don't know what to do with, and a baby rose haired tarantula that i have to father for God knows how long, before I can sell it. most people who look at it says it looks like something they would have stepped on in the kitchen. -_-; sigh
