North Carolina mygalomorphs

Atypidae
. Sphodros
. . atlanticus
. . niger
. . rufipes
. . unID sp.

Antrodiaetidae
. Antrodiaetus
. . microunicolor
. . unicolor
. . unID sp.

Dipluridae
. Microhexura
. . montivaga (FEDERALLY ENDANGERED)

Cyrtaucheniidae
. Myrmekiaphila
. . foliata

Ctenizidae
. Ummidia
. . unID sp.

Sphodros species are known as pursewebs.  They make a burrow at the base of a tree (usually) or other structure that both extends into the ground and up the side of the structure.  They take prey that walks on the above ground portion of the burrow.
To see pics of burrows and some good info read: http://www.dnr.sc.gov/cwcs/pdf/Pursewebspider.pdf

Atrodiaetus sp. are sometimes known as turret spiders.  They should make an in ground burrow topped with a, well, turret. The turret is a small (generally under 3", iirc) extension made of web, vegetable matter, and possibly soil.  To see a pic of a CA species, see http://bugguide.net/node/view/147368/bgimage

Ummidia sp. are more like traditional trapdoors.  They should have an in ground burrow with a concealed trapdoor.
To see a Ummidia burrow go here: http://www.answers.com/topic/trapdoor-spider ... but i am not sure if that is a good representation of the burrow as i don't think it is even a USA Ummidia sp.

Sphodros rufipes is classified as endangered or protected.. something like that, many in the scientific community think that is obsolete however, as their numbers are very large in various areas. The males are AWESOME, not too big at all and with incredible coloration Smile Great looking spider overall Wink
