Found this female while doing yardwork today:

Found a ladybug, too, but couldn't get a very good picture of it:

I only saw a couple of male Ten-Lineds last summer -- WAY fewer than usual.  Usually we get *dozens* each year.

Lucky you with the 10 lined June (Polyphylla decemlineata). I only have one of those and a friend caught it for me with his porch light.

Well, she's not really "in-situ" at the moment, but I thought I'd just continue this thread.

She's laying eggs!

Here she is with one egg:

And here's another egg:

Help!  Is there any way I can keep these eggs alive and raise the grubs?  They're root-feeders.

If not, I'll put them in a good spot in the back yard and wish them luck.

For tonight, I'll just cover the eggs with some dampened substrate.

I fished out the eggs, and discovered a whole bunch more in there (14 total):

(and she's still laying more).

Hello Celeste

Just keep the eggs this way and once they hatch, just trasnfer them to a wood/leafmulch substrate and let them grow.

good luck.

Thanks, 'Cisco!

Any idea how long they take to hatch?
And then after hatching how long until they pupate?

Hello Celeste,

If they are fertile they should hatch in a few weeks 2-3 if I am not mistaken, and they are might be a one year beetle.

could these be kept in captivity for multiple gens?  "June bugs" & the like are great feeders...esp for widows.

I would really like to see them pupate and become adults. I will be willing to pay you Celeste for some live adults if it becomes successful.
