Hey scabies ,i just wanna talk about that thing my little wolfie is doing that makes me think she not only recognizes me but she is acting as if she was actualy trying to comunicate ::lol::.
Normaly i do know when my spiders are hungry from their abdomen size or in the case of my tarrantula, it only depends where he is in the container . He does have some favorite hunting spots.
But my little wolfie is waving her legs at me whenever i open the top of her container. She often will climb on the piece of wood thats in there and will look straight at me as soon as i open it . Then she waves two of her legs in my direction and then she will start moving her fangs a little back and forth like most spiders do It looks like she is saying hi to me or something ::lol::. I know i'm probably just hoping it's real more than anything else but i assure you all that this wolfie is different from the other wolfies i've kept.
I often put my hand in her container and move one of my fingers very close to her and she will not try to run away like most other wolfies did. Sometimes she will even put one of her legs on my finger and leave it there for a few seconds and then remove it and simply keep looking at me ::lol::. If i pick her up to handle her, she can stay on my hand for a long time and she will not try to escape or jump away from my hand like most other wolfies i've handled were doing.
And even after i try to release her back inside her container, she won't go back in right away ::lol::. She simply doesn't want to leave my hand at all.
I just think everything she does is cute and different from any other wolfies i've handled or kept as pets .
I'm curious to know if any of you think it's possible for a Wolf spider to recognize a human as a ''friend'' by friend i mean that she knows i'm not going to hurt her and she trusts me. Most other wolfs i've kept have let me handle them but they would jump away from my hands as soon as they got the chance or they would try to run away from my hands for a few seconds before they actualy accept to climb on it . Not this one.
And she is not acting deffensively eighter.
one last thing i want to say about her ::lol::. She doesn't hunt down the crickets i'm giving her. I have to pre-injure the crickets before giving them to her. She won't try to kill anything by herself. Even after i've injured the cricket and he can barely move, she might try to move towards it and move on top of the cricket but if he starts moving again, she will step away realy quick and she'll come back to it later to try and eat it again.
She simply doesn't have that killer's instinct that most other wolf spiders have . I'm sure she would eat fruits if she could ::lol::.
By the way i found her inside my house while i was talking on the phone bout 2 months ago maybe more. She was running on the kitchen's floor, i picked her up and kept her in my hands for like 10-15 minutes before deciding i was gonna keep her. She was probably feeding on small easy prey inside my house before her capture . Any wolfs i've captured from outside were alot more aggresive towards their crickets hehe.
What surprises me the most is that she is very small compared to the wolfs you guys have in Cali. A large wolfie might have a better chance to adopt a human as a friend but that one is about 1 inch maximum with legs and she isn't scared of me at all ::lol::.
anyways if i can ever picture those little cute behaviors i'll send pics here. I still haven't tried to picture it I'm just curious to know if any of you have seen similar behaviors with any wolfies you've kept. :-)
Every critter is a unique individual, that's for sure.
I think it's neat that you are so observant of her behaviors (even if you may be getting carried away and anthropomorphizing a bit). :->
I don't know if she would recognize *you* specifically, but I think it is certainly common for them to get used to being handled by *people* (in general), and to not mind it. The ones that seem to want to stay on my hands I usually attribute just to warmth, though.

i guess you guys would have to see it to understand why i'm reacting that way. She realy does wave to me when i open her container ::lol::. And she gives the paw too just like a dog haha.
Hey dood, try teaching it a few tricks like "play death curl",, or "fetch the walking stick", or "make fake prank sacs"....::lol::

the other day, it rained here in Cali and I got home and saw this HUGE! wolf climbing the wall and I thought "oh dayummmm, thats the BIGGEST wolf ive ever seen in the L.A. area" so I got it and upon closer inspection, it looked just like a Carolina wolf then I went to check mine and sure enough, one was missing....::lol::......How the hell this one got out has me baffled to this day
you think maybe it knew it screwed up by leaving and then climbed the wall so I would spot it easy and take it home??.....
::lol:: Johnny. You're probably right because usualy wolfs tend to stay on the ground rather than climbing. Makes perfect sense what you said . At least it does to me ::lol::.
Now about teaching tricks to mine, it's a bit too late for that . In fact she just died in my hands a few minutes ago.
I couldn't find her right away when i opend her container so i simply sprayed water here and there as i usualy do but then i noticed her. She was rather well hidden and camouflaged by the substrate. Anyways, she seemed weak and she was having almost no reaction at all . I picked her up very slowly and she barely reacted . i simply left her laying on my finger for like 5 minutes , hoping life would kick back in but sadly , she left.
She had been refusing the last couple of meals i gave her too. Usualy she was eating it within an hour after i injured the cricket but the last couples ones simply died and remained uneaten.
I'm gonna miss that little Wolfie. I had gotten rather attached to all those little cute things she did.
She even asked me to remove the cricket from her burrow once, beleive it ot not ::lol::.

On the other hand, i've succesfully rescued a ''almost frozen '' Grass spider last week. Was pretty cold outside and she could barely move when i found her. Now she's very alive and kicking. She keeps working on her web, expanding it everyday and adding substrate in some areas.
We'll see how long i can keep that one healthy.

Mud hehe yeah i'm always hoping to teach my pets tricks but they are not always as receptive as this wolfie i talked so much about
I tryed to handle a Grass spider for the very first time yesterday at work. DAAAMMMNNNNNN are they fast. I managed to make it climb on my hand but the same second it was back on the floor ::lol::.
I try again a bit after and this time she stays on my hand but she stood still for like 1 minute. Not even moving a palp. So i touched one of her rear legs with the tip of my finger and within a second she was back on the floor.
I noticed wolfs tend to remain a bit more calm while being handled . As if they were testing you, waiting to see if you realy do represent a danger or not. Once it spends a few minutes in your hands they can be released back on floor and picked up again short after and they will not fear you anymore.
Grass spiders seem to be alot more shy and easily scared . Not gonna be easy to teach tricks to them ::lol::.
By the way just for the irony ::lol::, that grass spider i tryed to handle yestrday was the biggest grass spider i had ever seen in my area and she almost gave me a heart attack when i saw her ::lol::. She was hiding behind a trash can and when i moved it to change the trash bag i saw the beast and almost fell on my butt ::lol::.
The one i rescued last week is less than half the size of that big one from yesterday. I captured that big one too since she would probably be dead right now if i hadn't . I do find alot of dead spiders in that building cuz other people kill them. Releasing it outside would've killed it too this time of year so her only chance for survival is with me
I'm simply hoping she likes crickets ::lol::. So far she started spinning silk a bit here and there but it's not the main web. it seems to me like those threads represent more of an alarm system or maybe marking her new territory, i dunno. Maybe both ::lol::.
She's still too shy to start teaching her tricks though. I'll be happy if she simply catches her crix in mid air hehe.

Ok i admit some trues do have the potential to kill a roach but i seriously doubt you can feed all your trues roaches without any exception.
I don't think any of your sac spiders or jumpers or Tegenarias could kill a roatch unless you're feeding them baby roatches. And besides , i was trying to sound funny in my post , not trying to prove anything ::lol::.
