Hey scabie brethren. I am from arachnoboards and decided to drop by with a couple questions!  Very Happy
I am from the bay area, and there isn't a whole lot of scorpion life here. I'm planning a trip to socal. It's more desert and hotter there, and I understand there are more scorpions as well. Last time I went I managed to find a couple paruroctonus silvestrii around a park near glendale. If anyone knows where scorpions are more abundant, I'd appreciate any tips. Thanks.

I find scorps here and there around Glendale and LA in general... mostly along the river/gorge hiking trails and such.
Our fav spots have been east of LA along the 210... in the scrub and esp where there is man-made junk lying around.
Its HOT right now... bugs are dug down to avoid dry out. Often slim pickns during the summer heat.

Hey, thanks for the replies. I'm going around the glendale area, looking for good parks around the area probably. Steven, what do you mean by the 210? Sorry, I don't know much about local areas in LA. Very Happy

I live in that area, and you could try the Deukmejian Wilderness Park.  Here's a link:

I don't know whether there are any scorps up there or not, but it is a very open, dry area.  It got burned out two years ago.

There is also the Crescenta Valley Park, and the Stough Canyon Park.  (Just google).

Hey guys here is an update.

Unfortunately I didn't get much, no scorpions at all. But I did see a scorpion tail, haha. I went to Deukmejian park for a little, thanks I didn't know about that.

I think like Steven said, they are hiding in the summer, I didn't find much at all. But thanks for the advice everyone, I did manage to find  a black widow and a few crickets. Maybe next time!

This forum seems dead...? Anyway it's been a while...I'll be coming down to socal for a family vacation again, and I really hope to find a scorpion this time!
I'll let you know if I find anything.
