Species of Interest: What is this?

Species of Interest (SoI) threads are another way for SCABIES to pool their questions, answers, and infos about a particular species.  An SoI thread is less organized than a SiP thread.  A SoI thread will be allowed to roam off topic without being editted.  Range, habitat, natural life cycles, captive life cycles, breeding, and more will be discussed in SoI threads.  It is possible we will eventually have to split SoI threads if they become unwieldy in size or content.

I am going to go through and "steal" some threads that other scabies have started and turn them into SoI's.  if you really really don't want me to, that is fine.... just PM me or whatever and i will try to fix it back the way it was

It is not necesary for scabies to actual possess a species of interest.  we are merely... interested in them.  Preliminary range and habitat studies for a species would be good examples of stuff to find ina  SoI

Species in Progress: What is this?

Species in Progress (SiP) threads are a way for scabies to pool captive care questions (and answers, hopefully), tricks, and knowledge in general for a local species that the group is working with.

A SiP thread will be a refinement of a SoI thread. Offtopic posts will most likely be deleted or moved.

Eventually i would like to take SiP's and refine them into a coherent report on the captive care of a certain species.

Species Report: What is this?

The final product of SCABIES work on a species will be a Species Report (SR).  An SR will have a very structured appearance which should allow readers to easily digest information off of them.  An SR should will include complete husbandry and culturing information, including clutch sizes observed, growth rates, time to maturity (at least males in longer lived tarantulas), time to death (for shorter lived species).  Eventually i would like to assemble a book (online, if not hardcopy), complete with pictures
and Species Reports for a wide range of SoCA bugs!

General Guidelines
SoI threads can appear in either the "in situ" or "in captivity" side of a particular category.  SiP and SR threads should really only be created "in captivity" since the bulk of their content *should* be contentrating on captive husbandry and culturing.

Each forum will have a sticky with an index of all the SoI, SiP, and SR to be found therein.

I think/hope that SoI, SiP, and SR will become one of the more useful aspects of the scabies forum Smile

Many times all the creatures of a genus will have quite similar habits and attributes.  Sometimes it might be easiest for us to write up a genus, and then use the genus guide to compare and more importantly contrast a species to the generic genus example

Genus of Interest - preliminary study.  animals need not be in scabies possession.

well, we need to figure out what it is and then make a thread about the captive care of it... but i am kind of thinking of lumping most Aphonopelma together, unless a particular species has care requirements different enough from the average Aph. to need it's own sheet
